Q1: Is this a real plant or artificial? A: This is a real, live succulent cactus — a 2-year-old Astrophytum myriostigma (Bishop’s Cap) in its attractive 4-rib (quadricostatum) form. It is not artificial. The plant is shipped bare root (without pot or soil) after the roots are properly dried to ensure safe transit.
Q2: What size will I receive? A: The plant is approximately 8–10 inches (20–25 cm) wide and 10–12 inches (25–30 cm) tall, typically forming a nice cluster of 15–20 heads. Actual size and exact shape may vary slightly due to natural growth — we send recent photos before shipping.
Q3: Why is it shipped bare root? A: Bare-root shipping reduces weight, lowers shipping costs, and minimizes the risk of rot during transit. The roots are dried for 3–5 days (sometimes longer) before packing, which is standard and safe for succulents. You will receive detailed planting instructions with your order.
Q4: How do I care for it after receiving? A:
This species loves bright light (at least 6 hours of direct sun or strong indirect light) and is very sensitive to overwatering.
Q5: How often should I water it? A: Astrophytum myriostigma is drought-tolerant. Water deeply but infrequently — allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. In winter or dormant periods, keep it almost completely dry. Overwatering is the most common cause of problems (rot or splitting ribs).
Q6: What light and temperature does it need? A: It thrives in bright, direct sunlight (or very bright indoor light). Ideal daytime temperatures are 21–29°C (70–85°F). Protect from frost — do not order if your area is below -5°C (23°F) during shipping, as cold damage cannot be compensated.
Q7: Will it flower? A: Mature plants produce beautiful creamy-yellow flowers with a reddish-orange center at the top. Flowering usually occurs in warmer months once the plant is well-established. Younger plants (like the 2-year-old ones we ship) focus more on growth first.
Q8: Is it safe for pets or children? A: Like most cacti, it is non-toxic but has no spines — making it safer than many other cacti. Still, keep out of reach of pets or young children who might chew on plants.
Q9: What if the plant arrives damaged? A: Minor leaf drop or cosmetic damage during shipping is normal and not covered. If the plant is seriously damaged or rotten, please contact us within 24–48 hours with clear photos. We will arrange a replacement or store credit for your next order. We pack professionally and have strong experience with international and domestic shipping.
Q10: Do you offer discounts or bulk pricing? A: Yes! We offer tiered discounts:
