Q1: Is this a real plant or artificial? A: This is a real, live succulent cactus — Mammillaria Duwei (also known as Duwei Pincushion Cactus). It is not artificial. The plants are 2-year-old clustered specimens with strong resilience.

Q2: What size plant will I receive? A: The plant is approximately 8–10 inches (20–25 cm) wide and 10–12 inches (25–30 cm) tall, usually forming a nice cluster of 15–20 heads. Actual size and shape may vary slightly due to natural growth. We will send recent photos of the exact plant before shipping for your confirmation.

Q3: Why is it shipped bare root? A: Bare-root shipping reduces weight and shipping costs while greatly lowering the risk of rot during transit. The roots are thoroughly dried (usually 3–5 days or longer) before packing, which is standard practice for cacti and succulents. Detailed planting and care instructions are included with your order.

Q4: How should I care for it after receiving? A:

1. Unpack immediately and remove any obviously rotten or damaged tubercles/leaves.
2. Trim old or damaged roots if necessary.
3. Place in a well-ventilated, partially shaded spot and allow the plant to dry for 3–5 days before potting.
4. Use well-draining cactus/succulent soil mix.
5. When temperatures are between 5–26°C (41–79°F), water thoroughly after potting. In very hot or cold conditions, keep the soil slightly moist or delay watering.
6. The plant typically resumes growth within 1–2 months. Applying a preventive fungicide spray is recommended during the initial recovery period.

Mammillaria Duwei prefers bright light and should be gradually acclimated to strong sunlight.

Q5: How often should I water it? A: Mammillaria Duwei is quite drought-tolerant. Water following the “soak and dry” method — water thoroughly only when the soil is completely dry. In the growing season (summer), water roughly every 12–15 days depending on dryness. Keep it almost completely dry in winter. Overwatering is the most common cause of root rot.

Q6: What light and temperature does it need? A: It thrives in bright light (at least 4–6 hours of direct sun or very bright indirect light). More light encourages better clustering and flowering. Ideal temperatures are 15–28°C (59–82°F). It is not frost-hardy. If your area is below -5°C (23°F) during shipping, please consider carefully as cold damage cannot be compensated.

Q7: Will it flower? A: Yes. Mammillaria Duwei is one of the easier species in the genus to flower. Mature plants produce lovely creamy-white to pale pink flowers, mainly in spring and summer. The 2-year-old clustered plants we ship focus primarily on growth and clustering, but they will produce flower buds once established with proper care.

Q8: Is it safe for pets or children? A: It has fine, soft spines (some hair-like), and is non-toxic. However, we still recommend keeping it out of reach of children and pets to avoid accidental pricking or ingestion.

Q9: What if the plant arrives damaged? A: Minor leaf/tubercle drop, scratches, or slight cosmetic damage during shipping is normal and not covered.
